What’s all this, then?

Hi, I’m Suze.

I’ve been involved in music in one way or another since I was very young, from formally training as a musician, playing bass in a band, to promoting parties, working in a record store, writing, DJing, writing my undergraduate dissertation on Serge Gainsbourg, to working on the label side of the business. I’m not afraid to be a walking cliché when I say music is my life.

When I graduated into the financial crisis in the UK, I struggled to get on the job ladder, and after some fortuitous turns that mostly involved blogging, I met a NYC-based producer called Dre Skull. We started working together, and I helped him build the independent label Mixpak from the ground up. In the years that followed, we signed and worked with Jamaican stars like Popcaan, Vybz Kartel, and Spice, African acts like Afro B, Mr Eazi, or Davido, and leftfield pop and underground electronic acts like Palmistry, Jubilee, and Florentino.

I’ve been working in artist services and business development ever since. As of now, I work with artists, labels and brands on music strategy, creative marketing and execution. I still DJ, and have a monthly residency on London station NTS Radio

This newsletter is a place for me to talk about music, design and culture, and how those things come together. I want to dig into how music makes its way into the world, and thread ideas from past to future, mixed with real-life insights from my working life. Hopefully it will inform and entertain, and show you some music you might not have heard before too.

If that sounds interesting to you, please subscribe, and spread the word if you feel to. Looking forward to sharing!

Never miss an update. Every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox.
